On a beautiful, sunny September 17th with temperatures in the 80’s, almost 100 golfers, volunteers and supporters gathered at the beautiful Brookmeadow Country Club in Canton, MA to participate in the AABA 2018 Olivia A. Waishek Memorial Golf Tournament.
The golf tournament honored the memory of Olivia A. Waishek, a dedicated member of the AABA community and a golfer who supported and played in AABA tournaments in many years past. Her indomitable spirit was certainly shining down on us on that beautiful day.
This year at registration our golfers were treated to a goodie bag filled with wonderful gift items and delicious snacks and we all enjoyed a bountiful presentation of muffins, bagels, pastries and beverages graciously brought by our friends at Costco.
A full day of golf held many challenging holes, games with cash prizes and a chance to win a new car. This year, something new was added, a long drive champion who hit 400 yard drives for each group and gave them a chance to win a golf trip to Pebble Beach, California. This turned out to be a real crowd favorite.
After golf, our golfers, volunteers and supporters thoroughly enjoyed a “BBQ on the Green”. The favorable weather allowed many to enjoy dining on the patio under the stars.
Two engraved crystal trophies were given out this year; one to the winning foursome of Jennifer Franzosa, David Franzosa, Jessica Thompson and Adam Thompson which will remain in the AABA Community Room and the other trophy to Olivia’s family who so graciously attended and supported this very worthwhile event.
During dinner more than 30 wonderful raffle prizes were given out including a SAMSUNG Smart TV, a Callaway Men’s Driver, New Balance clothing etc. and many valuable gift cards to area restaurants and retailers. One prize that is always a very big hit was the large poster board filled with Mass State Lottery tickets. Thank you to all who donated and congratulations to all our winners.
The real winners will be those who benefit from AABA’s charitable endeavors; our seniors, needy families and college-bound students amongst others. The proceeds from this year’s outing again will be invested in the ongoing enhancement of AABA’s programs. This year our golf outing netted over $50,000.00 thanks to the generosity of our Golfers, Premier Sponsor, Honor Sponsors, Corporate and Personal Sponsors, Gold Sponsors, Silver Sponsors, Hole Sign Donors, Patrons and Volunteers who donated their time and resources to make AABA’s 2018 Olivia A. Waishek Memorial Golf Tournament the wonderful success it was. We couldn’t have done it without you.
Please visit the AABA Facebook page to see all the photos of this fun and important AABA event and to see how you can join us for next year’s tournament. We look forward to seeing you!
